Re: Wheelhouse skis. I made some skis basically how you said you were thinking a few years ago. Made mine with 2x8's as the runners. 48" long overall the front 1/3rd of it is curved then strait until the last 6" and then kicks up a 1/2". I put the axle center line at two thirds the overall length.

#1 I have a tracked UTV and pull a 3000lb single axel ice house with skis damn near anywhere and want to upgrade to a 4500lb, tandem axel. The guys in MN that sell skis are telling me that it will be too heavy. I would think that if you bought 4 and welded them together so you had 2 on each side that would work?
